Brie, Bacon & Pomegranate Crostini - Bakemas Day 7

This crostini is perfect for party season and gatherings. Having something on the table that’s quick to whip up and looks like you put way more effort in than you did can’t hurt right? I mean if you think about it really this is just incredibly fancy cheese on toast.

Chicken, Tomato & Vegetable Stew with Herby Dumplings - Bakemas Day 7

So I’m definitely ill, brilliant! Isn’t it just the worst when you’re ill to the point where you’re in too much pain to sleep, because it sort of feels like someone’s whacking me in both sides of my head every few seconds and every time I swallow it feels like there’s a massive lump in my throat, I imagine that lump is probably phlegm, too much? And don’t even get me started on the body aches. Anyway, I didn’t have plans to make this today, actually I didn’t even have plans to make this any time in December but I woke up craving this and it’s one of the main things I want when I’m ill. Thinking about it, I was craving this yesterday too but I obviously didn’t put two and two together I was in ignorant bliss hoping I’d just be run down for a week or two. This is my mum's recipe, well I say recipe it's more....her throwing things into the pan type thing but it's usually roughly the same. I got kind of obsessed with it a few years ago and would eat it every day and cooked right the dumplings are the best part. It’s pretty much healthy hearty comfort food that cures winter blues and colds, so expect magic.

Sweet Potato & Brussel Sprout Salad with Bacon, Blue Cheese & Pecans - Bakemas Day 5

It’s 11:17pm and I just sat down to write this post. It’s awfully convenient that the day I have little to no time to write is the day I have not a lot to say, if you can’t feel the sarcasm dripping from the sentence I’ll just subtly point it out. So I have good reasons for not getting round to it until now and no I wasn’t procrastinating, although that does sound like something I would do. I spent the day sewing then at a family gathering and I just assumed I’d be back about 8-9ish but here we are 11:30, I would much rather be curled up with a hot chocolate watching a film or even in bed but the show must go on, I’m on a bakemas mission. So brussel sprouts, are we yay or nay? Are they like marmite you either love them or you hate them? I remember not liking them as a child, however I’m not sure if that’s because they have the whole stigma surrounding them so I never really gave them a chance or if my baby taste buds couldn’t handle them. I think brussel sprouts are a little like coffee, the majority of people could like it if they work out how they like it, that’s code for embellish and it’ll probably taste good and you’ll eventually learn to like it on its own. My mum makes a brussel sprout and bacon salad for Christmas, which seems to be quite a popular Christmas day side dish, but I decided it just needed more. This could easily be used as a side or a main but I’ll warn you now picking at this salad is a problem. I ended up picking at it so much that by the time I sat down to eat dinner I wasn’t even hungry.

Apple Bacon Cheese Burger with Sautéed Onions & Apple Sauce

Is it the wrong season for burgers, because if it is my cravings have no clue what time of year it is. I’ve been calling this an autumn burger, to begin with I hadn’t really named it, I know it turned out to be a very innovative name, but when I had named it, apple bacon cheese burger just seemed too long to say in passing and there’s apple sauce, do I need any more of a reason? I’ve been talking about making this since last month and being the expert procrastinator even through my excitement of making it I didn’t get round to it for a good three weeks. The entire time I was making this I felt like I was running around like a headless chicken, I’ll just say now it’s not hard or messy or challenging it’s actually a pretty simple recipe, so don’t let this put you off. I’d had a long day, the kitchen was a massive tip, I was balancing things on chairs and stacks of magazines there were things everywhere. Partly because when I started my day the kitchen wasn’t all that tidy to begin with and I got a bit too busy to the point where I stopped tidying up in-between finishing one thing and starting another. I was trying to get dinner made by a certain time so I was running around and ended up with a beetroot red face by the time it was done and shot and I finally got round to eating this. I’m surprised something didn’t end up on the floor but it was definitely worth the headless chicken running. If I didn’t put you off too much happy non-headless chicken burger making!

Soy, Tomato & Garlic Marinated Chicken with Rice and Crunchy Veg

I’ve been having some....digestive problems? Let’s go with that. Is this too much too talk about on a food blog? Basically a lot of stomach aches, a lot of feeling sick and not a lot of want to eat food. I’ve basically been living off hot chocolate biscuits and chicken and rice, don’t judge me! I imagine these are all completely the wrong things to eat with an upset whatever but that’s just how it went down. I’m still not really all the interested in food but may I grace you with the presence of the recipe that has kept me alive for the past 1-2 weeks. Don’t get me wrong this may or may not be the best thing to eat with a stomach upset, I guess you have to figure out for yourselves what to eat, but basically what I’m saying is don’t judge the recipe on my stomach upset. Trust me, it's even yummier with a tip top digestive system. I could quite possibly live off of this meal! This is one of those dishes that are tasty hot, but the leftovers are just as good, if not slightly better because you don't even have to cook to eat! And better still the flavours intensify over night, so double the recipe, triple the recipe, put the chicken in your sandwich the next day, this chicken is your oyster!
